Hope

The adolescent may hope to earn a starting role on an athletic team; the teenager may hope to be admitted to a top college or university; the mid-career executive may hope to become CEO of his or her company.

For the residents of Malachi House, hope is measured quite a bit differently. The terminally ill might measure hope as a day without pain; or a chance to see their favorite puppy before they die; or to enjoy the companionship of a compassionate caregiver who they have come to like and respect; and, ultimately, for the chance to die in dignity.
